• All certificated staff in the county are required to register their credentials with the County Office of Education (Ed Code 42647). New staff or staff changing assignments must have a Credential Verification Form completed by the district and make an appointment to meet with KCOE credentials staff.
• If you have applied for your credential through a college or university, you must bring verification that your credential has been submitted to the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) by the university AND/OR the confirmation by CTC that they have received your payment. You must have a confirmation number from CTC. The County Office may then issue a Temporary County Certificate (TCC). A TCC will cover your service while your credential is being processed. It is at the discretion of the County Office to issue a TCC.
• You may renew your credential/sub permit on-line. At www.ctc.ca.gov Note: All Clear, Professional and Professional Clear credentials MUST be renewed online.
Additional Information:
• You need to read your credential document - know your valid dates of service and your authorizations and restrictions. You are responsible for renewing your credential and meeting the renewal requirements. The County Office of Education is not required to notify you of your credentials expiration, but does so as a courtesy to the credential holder and employing district.
• Summer school assignments require proper credentials and authorizations.
• As per Ed Code §44065, you are required to hold a valid teaching or service credential for your assignment prior to rendering service.
• AB 2859 added Ed Code Section §45037, which requires that the County Office not process payroll warrants for teachers who do not hold a valid credential and/or permit.
• You cannot substitute for yourself and a substitute cannot be the "teacher of record". In other words, if you are not able to renew your credential, a substitute permit will not cover your service. You may be able to apply for a Provisional Internship Permit or Short-term Staff Permit if you qualify and if your district requests the permit.
