    Shelly Baird School, in partnership with families, Kings County School Districts, our community, and other agencies, provides comprehensive expertise, education, support, and services for Kings County students (3 – 22 years old) with complex and intensive educational needs who are identified as students requiring special education supports.

    Currently, Shelly Baird School has classes available on the main campus and the Kings County Highland Center, both located in Hanford and on 14 comprehensive school campuses within Kings County in Stratford, Lemoore, Armona, Hanford, and Corcoran.  All classes are taught by highly qualified teachers special education teachers with the support of para-educators and support staff, such as psychologists, nurses, and designated instructional service staff. Our clerical staff and administrators are all closely involved in the working of the classrooms.  This comprehensive support team allows us to deliver high quality instruction to every student we serve to prepare them to be valued and contributing members of their family and society.

    An Individualized Education Program (IEP) with goals connected to the California State Standards is designed for each student. The IEP’s emphasize functional skill areas, including language and communication development, pre-academic/academic skills, social skills, community interaction, daily living skills, vocational skills, and leisure and recreation. Students receive related services as needed, such as adapted physical education, vision support, hard-of-hearing support, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, and assistive technology services.
